Mental disorder is one of the leading causes of ill-health and disability all across the world. According to World Health Organization, about 450 million people are suffering from mental health disorder. One out of every four person is troubled from mental or neurological disorder at some point in their lives.

With the recent data published by National Mental Health Survey, in India the estimate mental morbidity is 10.6% found in the individuals above the age of 18 years. At this point of time, 56 million is suffering from depression and another 38 million are suffering from anxiety disorders.

The report of WHO states that the depressive disorders are generally characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, guilt feeling or low self esteem, disturbance in sleep, lack of concentration, etc.

Every year the day is followed by a particular theme and this year the theme is “Mental health in the workplace”. On an average an adult spends a huge amount of time at the work but still not satisfied with their job. Nearly 70% of people who are working are always searching a better job. Working is always good for the mental health but a negative working environment affect the physical as well as mental health. Supporting employees at the work place, suffering from mental health disorder will help the employees in increasing their productivity at the work.

One in every five people in the workplace have experience a mental health condition. Harassment and bullying at the work place are the most common reported problems that have a substantial unfortunate effect on the mental health.

Since 1982, the government of India has been implementing National Health Programme to integrate the mental health care in to the primary health care and to proceed towards community health care.
