A choral concert presenting two versions of the mass, plus a performance by the winner of the Wilmington Choral Society's 2019 Dave Hardee Scholarship for Vocal Performing Arts!
This concert presents two very different settings of the Mass. The first piece is the "Mass in G" by Franz Schubert. The "Mass in G" has been described as "one of the most popular settings of the mass... with charming, song-like melodic writing".
Our guest soloists will be soprano Shannon Kessler Dooley (shannonkesslerdooley.com) and baritone John Dooley (johndooleybaritone.com). Both have sung with the chorale before and, when you hear their voices, you’ll understand why we are thrilled to have them with us again. We will be accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra.
The second setting is called "A Little Jazz Mass", composed by Bob Chilcott, a long-time member of the King's Singers. The work has been described as "A highly original and effective concert setting of the Latin Missa Brevis...", and it has melody lines and harmonies that are simply gorgeous!
The WCS will also be awarding the "Dave Hardee Scholarship for Vocal Performing Arts" go New Hanover High School Senior Ana Player Murray. This scholarship is funded entirely by contributions from our members and from online donations made through our Web site a www.wilmingtonchoralsociety.org
Ana has a marvelous stage presence and a lovely voice. You will be most impressed!
