INTRODUCTION

Trauma support and counselling course will give the trainees relevant knowledge, skills and values to identify clients exposed to traumatic events and provide trauma support services in the immediate aftermath of traumatic events. The participants of this training will be imparted with the concepts of First Aid, the principles of trauma recovery sessions, and effective treatments for people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Certificate of Participation.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

· Recognize the likelihood for trauma occurrence

· Clearly identify the symptoms of trauma-related stress (physical, emotional, behavioral, cognitive)

· Identify post-traumatic symptoms

· Comprehend trauma components that affect society

· Evaluate the recovery stages of trauma

· Properly understand the best counseling implementation strategies

DURATION

This course will take approximately 5 days

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is intended for NGO staff, counselors, trauma support personnel, emergency responders, medical practitioners, and new entry personnel in the field of risk management and security.

Topic 1: Introduction to concepts of trauma and the Impact of Traumatic Events

· History of trauma

· Introduction to Stress

· Introduction to Crisis

· Traumatic Stress

· Traumatic Incidents

Topic 2: Typical Reactions of a Traumatic Survivor:

· Important Survivor Assumptions

· Post-Traumatic Stress Reactions

· The Traumatic Symptoms

· Diagnostic Criteria for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Topic 3: Trauma Assistance:

· Four Waves of Trauma Assistance

· Important Concepts of Working with Survivors

· Effective Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorders

· Traumatology Intervention Roles

· Typical Effects of Post Trauma Relationships

Topic 4: Trauma Recovery Services:

· Major Concepts to Understand

· Meaning of resilient and its implication for persons with trauma

· Working with families and cares of young children with trauma

· The support services and referral pathways available

Topic 5: Trauma Intervention Methods:

· Interventions to prevent traumatic stress

· Prevention verses Treatment

· Screening- Who needs intervention

· Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

 

Topic 6: The Trauma Recovery Model

· Characteristics of the Trauma-Recovery Session

· Benefits of Trauma Recovery Sessions or Debriefing

 

Activity: Think of a session where you will help a trauma victim deal with his/her pressing issue. Define that session to the class and invite them to provide you with insights.

 

GENERAL NOTES

· The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.

· The participants should be reasonably proficient in English as all facilitation and course materials will be offered in English.

· Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with a certificate.

· The training will be held at Kincaid Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments and lunch.
