Summer Poetry Season Launches with Two Events

Start your summer with literary fireworks. Creative Happiness Institute brings you two poetry events: on June 30 THE SUMMER SLAM, with big prizes and on July 2, CORNELIUS EADY in a major performance.

SUMMER SEASON OFFERS BIG NAMES AND BIG PRIZES.

Creative Happiness Institute starts the summer season with literary fireworks when it offers two major events. On June 30, at 7 p.m., at HATTERS Sports Lounge, Creative Happiness Institute (CHI), and MainStreet Art and Culture (MACDeLand) Slam proudly present THE SUMMER SLAM. Then, on July 2, at 5 p.m., Cornelius Eady, one of America’s most-prized poets, will perform at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum.

SUMMER SLAM will allow up to 20 poets to register and compete for a first prize of $400. An Open Mic will take place between each round of the slam, time permitting. General Admission is open to the public, free, but there is a registration fee of $15 in order to compete in this slam. A minimum of 10 competitors will be needed to guarantee the $400 first prize. Second and third prize money will depend on the number of competitors. Any open slots to compete will be filled at the event, but there is no guarantee you can compete without preregistering. An Amazon Kindle Fire wiill be raffled during the event. Tickets for the raffle will be available with proof of food purchase. JULY 2, CORNELIUS EADY, who has won numerous national awards as a poet and dramatist, will perform his work at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. Doors open at 5:00, program, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, also co-sponsored by Ormond Memorial Art Musem and made possible through the Atlantic Center for the Arts Community Outreach Program.
