Performance testing has come a long way from the days of conducting tests at the end of the software development life cycle (SDLC) or once things go wrong in production. And we have the DevOps and Agile culture to thank for it. This culture has allowed us to:
1. Conduct performance testing early. You have developers running unit-level performance tests before checking in their code.
2. Provide performance feedback quickly. This helps address performance issues before they become a major problem and potentially require re-architecting the whole application.
3. Involve everyone from the start so performance-related decisions can be made quickly.
Some of the key takeaways from this webinar are:
1. Knowing a performance testing tool or how to script does not equate to performance testing.
2. The performance testing world is much more than just a performance testing tool.
3. Have a mentor or group of people who can guide you in the field of performance testing/engineering. Read books/articles/blog posts to help you expand your knowledge of performance testing.
4. Surround yourself with people with different technical and non-technical knowledge and learn from them. If you want to learn about databases, find a DBA, and learn from them or read articles around it.
5. Performance testing and engineering is an ever-evolving field. There is always something new to learn — whether it is learning how to tune MySQL databases or how to represent information that makes sense.
