In a post to accompany the announcement which has now replaced the Felmyst website and forums, Gummy52 said the server was the culmination over four years' work. Gummy52 WoTLK Gold muscular dystrophy condition hinders him from moving to a different country as "an alternative way to host for the servers."
One of the reasons for this is believed to be the amount of players who have suddenly been interested in the original server. The plan was to have the players form a small group enjoying a classic version of the game. But this isn't possible. Gummy52 declared that he would not be willing to hand off the project to anyone else since an outcome of the attention the server has received, "the market to wrongfully gain profit from this project is way too lucrative for anyone to hand it out just on the spur of the moment."
"I regret that things didn't turn out as I had hoped, but I'm not sure if I'd reconsider any of the decisions I took," he continued. "I gambled that we could keep the servers under 3k and still have a strong community. Unfortunately, I didn't make it through, however, in a way it was satisfying to see an abundance of people wanting to enjoy something I was working on. This project gave the last 4 years in my career a feeling significance that I thoroughly enjoyed."
Last year, Blizzard shut down a famous legacy server called Nostralrius which brought the game back to its vanilla version. After that, Blizzard met with the developers of cheap WoTLK Classic Gold . The manager of the server's project said that during the meeting the Blizzard team appeared to be in favor of having old servers within the game.
