SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society) a leading humanitarian organisation, has initiated bidding on paintings, ‘Art for a Cause’. The proceeds of the sale of 17 paintings by three artists will go towards Evergreen English School, based in Pokhriabong Tea Estate in Darjeeling, to cater to the educational needs of children from surrounding the tea gardens.
The curated paintings are live on an online platform by SEEDS - https://sites.google.com/view/seedsartforacause/the-paintings. The bidding starts at INR 5000, 6500, 7000 and 8000 for the respective paintings.
Many tea gardens in Darjeeling have not paid wages to their workers during the lockdown period. Seeing their plight, the school authorities waived off school fees of the children of these workers, but have continued to pay the salaries of teachers and non-teaching staff. Now with funds drying up, this art auction would be able to provide some assistance to keep the school functioning.
The artists include Prof. Kavas Kapadia, former Dean of Studies at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Delhi; Kamal Kishore, an architect who works on disaster response and risk reduction; and Dhruv Bheda, a Class XII student of Kunskapsskolan international school, Gurgaon, who has been an avid painter since childhood.
