Acton Community Chorus Open Rehearsal

All area singers are invited to attend the open rehearsal of the Acton Community Chorus on September 9th, 7:30 to 9:30. Come and sing with us, meet members, and learn about the chorus.

All interested singers are invited to attend the first rehearsal of the Acton Community Chorus Fall season on September 9th, 7:30 to 9:30. During this Open Rehearsal, anyone may come and sing with the group, meet members, and learn about the chorus. Acton Community Chorus is open, without audition, to all singers 18 years of age and older.

We hope you will join us as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote. Our concert will feature songs by women composers and featuring the text of female poets. The main piece will be "A Winter Day" by Sarah Quartel. This five-movement work celebrates the long Canadian winter, setting texts by Sara Teasdale, Lucy Maud Montgomery (of 'Anne of Green Gables' fame), and Melville Cane. Each movement depicts a different time of day, beginning with the cold darkness before dawn (Timid Star) and concluding with the evening turning into dusk and darkness (Snow Toward Evening). The music conjures up vivid images of a cold and crisp winter, and of swirling, dancing snowflakes.

The chorus includes singers from Acton, Chelmsford, Dunstable, Groton, Harvard, Hudson, Lincoln, Littleton, Marlboro, Maynard, Stow, Westford, and other nearby towns. Rehearsals are held Mondays from 7:30 - 9:30 at the Faith Evangelical Free Church, 54 Hosmer Street, Acton. (The Church graciously hosts our rehearsals; the ACC has no religious affiliation.)

ACC, a nonprofit organization, is supported in part by grants from the Acton-Boxborough, Concord, Harvard, and Littleton Cultural Councils which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
