In celebration of World Food Day 2020, the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels is hosting an online event on 16 October from 10:00 – 12:00 CET.
A special address will be made by David Sassoli - the President of the European Parliament, and include high-level interventions by Janus Wojciechowski - the European Commissioner for Agriculture, QU Dongyu - the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti - the Secretary-General, Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, and Alzira Ferreira - the Director, Office to the European Union and Belgium, World Food Programme. The event will include welcoming remarks by Rodrigo de Lapuerta – Director, Liaison Office with the European Union and Belgium, FAO.
In the second part of the event, experts from the field, beneficiaries, industry, and resource partners will be interactively tracing the paths of cocoa beans from tree to shelf while highlighting the sustainability and environmental challenges along the way.
This year, World Food Day marks FAO’s 75th anniversary with the theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our actions are our future.” This fully virtual event is organized under the auspices of the European Parliamentary Alliance against Hunger and Malnutrition.
