Join us for a pop-up lecture on history.
Before anyone ever nevertheless persisted, and way before anyone sang God is a Woman, there were the women of the Middle Ages. This lecture covers how Eleanor of Aquitaine, Saint Clare of Assisi and Hildegard of Bingen asserted their power in an era dominated by men, and we'll show how their impact is still felt around the world today.
The takeaway:
Get some cool names to drop at your next happy hour. These women may not be names you hear every day, but they (and their centuries of impact) should be on your roster.
The instructor:
A lifelong history lover, Denise Carlin pursues her passion and majored in History with minors in World Politics and Spanish at Lycoming College. She then received her Masters in Medieval European History with a secondary concentration in War and Society from USM. With 300+ history books neatly arranged on her bookshelves, she's excited to share her love for the Middle Ages especially Spain in the 8th-13th centuries, the role of women, and medieval warfare. An HR professional by day, her free time is spent searching for the next adventure to read Viking runestones, climb ancient abbeys, and trying to convince every New Yorker to make a trip to the Cloisters. For history facts and more tennis photos than anyone wants to see, follow her on IG @DeniseMCarlin
