As we battle financial and economic headwinds, many of us have been learning money lessons the hard way. The financial world is an intimidating place, and if we want to be ‘good with money’ it’s hard to know where to start. Not any longer!

The FT journalist, podcaster and TV money expert Claer Barrett reveals the best habit-changing tips and tricks in her first book, What they don’t teach you about Money: Seven habits that unlock financial independence in conversation with TV maths ace and University Challenge star Bobby Seagull.

From exploring our emotional relationship with money to building up your own financial plan and how the financial industry tries to trip us up, this event will be packed full of practical tips and takeaways that will help you get on top of your finances.

Claer is famed for her easy-to-understand explainers about money on shows like ITV Lorraine and LBC Radio. Describing her book as being aimed at “someone who would never, ever think of buying a money book” she wrote it with the simple aim of helping ordinary people gain control of their finances so they can spend less time worrying about money, and more time enjoying it. Bobby shot to fame as team captain on University Challenge where his exchanges with rival Eric Monkman launched his broadcasting career. He teaches part-time in a school in East London and is an expert in ‘maths phobia’. You can catch him on the forthcoming BBC show The Pilgrimage.

This event will include a QandA session, and both Claer and Bobby will sign books at the end of the event.

From Claer...
‘Lots of people share their money worries with me. After we’ve chatted these through, they frequently say: “Bloody hell, Claer… why don’t they teach us this stuff in school?” So, this book – and the event – will attempt to fill that gap in a very human and relatable way, with no jargon allowed.

If you’ve heard me on my Money Clinic podcast or seen me on TV or Radio, you’ll know that I explain stuff about money in a way that anyone can understand – and I have no shame in admitting that I’ve made mistakes myself in the past. We all have! But it’s never too late to learn from these, and hope you can learn to change your habits using the seven methods I reveal in the book.’
