'Webinar on Green Resorts & Hotels'

The Indian tourism and hospitality industry has emerged as one of the key drivers of growth among the service sectors by contributing about 9.6 % GDP and 8% of the total employment in India. Hospitality in India has significant potential considering our rich cultural and historical heritage, variety in ecology, terrains and places of natural beauty spread across the country. The challenge in this sector lies in successfully preserving these in their original form and at the same time, safeguarding the economic interest of local communities. 

Increased footfall of tourists and the explosive growth of the industry over the past few years, barring the pandemic period, have had significant impacts on natural resources, consumption patterns, pollution and social systems. This has reiterated the need for a more responsible planning and management in this industry in order to minimize the negative impacts by addressing issues like water conservation, energy efficiency and waste management. These initiatives would also maximise the potential for sustainable development along with enhancing the guests’ experience and well- being.

Against this background, IGBC and H&RA Western India are organising the 'Webinar on Green Resorts & Hotels' on 18th Feb 2022 from 15:00 - 16:45 hrs. The session will elaborate on the various avenues for enhancing sustainable development in the hospitality sector. This would enable stakeholders to apply green building concepts in their hotel and resort projects and thus reduce environmental impacts in a quantifiable manner.
