On February 9, 2019, The Venice Chorale presents "We Shall Overcome: Songs of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion", at 7:00 p.m. at the Venice Performing Arts Center (VPAC). Artistic Director, Peter Madpak, comments, “The concert expresses the importance of acceptance, equality, and reconciliation. It is about us listening to, learning about, and celebrating each other as we are. The music will be amazing! I’m really excited."
Throughout history, prayers for a better life, protests for justice, and celebrations of life’s victories have been expressed through song. We Shall Overcome will feature pieces that do all three, such as "Like Dust I Rise", with the words of Maya Angelou set to music by Mark Hayes, excerpts from "Considering Matthew Shephard" by Craig Hella Johnson, "This Is Me" from The Greatest Showman, pieces celebrating the rich history of Black Americans, and much more. The Venice Chorale Concert Choir will be joined by their Youth Chorus and Apprentice Choir.
Tickets are $20-$25 and $5 for students. Group discounts are available. Tickets can be purchased online at www.thevenicechorale.org, or at the VPAC box office, in person or by calling 941-218-3779, Monday-Friday from 10-2. Group discounts are available.
Come share and experience this concert of awareness and celebration.
