'With this quality of performance I would recommend going to any event by the GAFA Arts Collective. Long may they continue to perform' Siegfried The Wagner blade
The Audience Club 2019
Following on from the success of our Siegfried we are going three better and presenting Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen in its four opera entirety. RinGafa: the power of love of power. These concerts with movement are true to Wagners score and interpolate Samoan history and culture in a syncretic treatment of the cycle. GAFA means connection in Samoan and creative director Sani Muliaumaseali'i seeks parallels in Nordic and Pacific mythology and culture. The connection is more recent as the island republic is also a former German colony and a New Zealand protectorate. This history finds it's way into the presentation as a quasi parallel narrative rendering the Ring Cycle center stage, in the middle of a world stage.
Many a strand hangs loose which RinGafa attempts to weave into consciousness:
Power, Colony, music and culture as opiate and the cultural refugees that are borne of a system enforced. The diverse cast is testimony to the power of music and the draw card that art can be. These world class talents, many of the global majority have been assembled for RinGafa, each with a huge talent, each with a unique story.
Maestro Stephen Anthony Brown with the Rosenau Sinfonia accompany the singers. Pauls Putnins is Wotan, Rhonda Browne is Erde, Yannick - Muriel Noah is Brunnhilde, Tom Lowe is Sigmund, Aivale Cole is Woodbird, Isabella Moore Gutrune and Sani Muliaumaseali'i is Siegfried.
It is a MUST for all Wagner enthusiasts and anyone who wants to see these music dramas which are very RARELY performed altogether outside of MAJOR opera houses. This interpretation is not to be missed.
