Volga Valley Conservation Club, an Iowa Chapter 504RDN, has been in existence since 1973 and on more than one occasion has been referred to as "our little gem in the Valley" and truly it is! It is located in the valley on the East bank of Coulee Creek, approximately a mile west of Fayette on Hwy 93. The club began as a Christmas tree farm, selling their first trees in 1988, and remains a working farm to this day. Several varieties of conifers are hand planted each year and cared for until reaching the perfect size in 6-8 yrs. You as a customer determine that "perfect tree and time to cut".
Members begin making and decorating handmade wreaths the first week of November and open the gates to the Public on the day after Thanksgiving to sell "cut your own" Christmas trees and handmade wreaths. Sales continue two to three weeks. Sales, weather, and pests large and small create the variable on availability.
Over the years archery, rifle and pistol range, area for clay target shooting, axe/knife throwing, and a slingshot rail have been added for club members. We also share our shooting ranges with local law enforcement for qualifications. The grounds are closed every Tuesday for the enjoyment of those that would like to enjoy traipsing up and down the hills, walk wooded trails, listen to the nearby creek, or skip a few rocks. If your patient, you may even see some wildlife!
Volga Valley Conservation Club offers a safe place to get ready for hunting season, practice a new outdoor interest, share experiences with other members, and make new family memories.
Income from Christmas sales, membership dues and hard work has allowed the club to continue to exist. With the partnership of our surrounding community members we will be able to expand our programs, replace needed equipment, and help in keeping Christmas traditions.
