REVIVAL 5 Hybrid: Live June 12 and 19, 2021 | Online June 24 - 26, 2021

We hope that you will join us for our in-person performances Saturday, June 12 and 19, and also for our three-day online, interactive festival June 24-26! Learn, watch, and participate with our multi-generational company, legendary guest artists and older adults sharing stories of new ways of connecting learned from this pandemic; stories of strength of legacy, hope and innovation!

For REVIVAL 5: Hybrid!, we will celebrate "Innovation and New Connections": How we took care of our bodies and spirits!

Enjoy this annual event in both live performances and for the second year in a virtual format! Live, in-person shows will feature our seasoned guest artists only.

Through the online festival you can enjoy the dancing, share in a rediscovery of 20th century dance with our guest artists, and join the participants of our programs in dance and music. Be inspired and get moving in 1-hour long ALL TOGETHER DANCE workshops each day and watch new dances created over the internet and in the open air created by our multigenerational artists.

Celebrating the fortitude, vitality, and joy of age in response to innovative ways learned from COVID-19, Dances For A Variable Population (DVP) will present, REVIVAL 5: Hybrid!, performances at Queensbridge Park and at Grant's Tomb along with a three - day virtual performance festival featuring daily interactive workshops and one collaborative panel. REVIVAL 5: Hybrid! features 7 legendary dance artists and 50 non-professional senior dancers, who reflect the innovation and beauty of older age in light of the challenges of this time. Through their experience and example of shared vitality and a spirit of unity, we are reminded of the importance of community and connection in spite of the difficulties of these times. We are united with them in commemoration of those lost, in celebration of what we have discovered, and hope for what yet awaits. REVIVAL 5: Hybrid!, connects a multi-generational dance company with choreographers in their 60s, 70s, and 80s through both live performances and a free-access virtual format. Now, as part of DVP's 12th year of free performances in iconic spaces, the world premiere of REVIVAL 5: Hybrid!, will take place Saturday, June 12 at Queensbridge Park at 4 PM, Saturday, June 19 at Grant's Memorial Tomb at 5 and 7 PM and also in free daily and open access virtual performances from Thursday to Saturday, June 24 - June 26 at 4 PM with all having interactive All Together Dance workshops open to the public. The conclusion of REVIVAL 5: Hybrid will be a panel with all choreographers and DVP teaching artists, Saturday, June 26 at 5 PM.

To close the festival on June 26, we will have a panel discussion and hear the stories of the artists and their friends.

We are all looking forward to the coming year and beyond when we can put this pandemic behind us!

Dances For A Variable Population welcomes choreographers Shirley Black Brown Coward (Broadway, George Faison Universal Dance Theatre), George Faison (Tony Award Choreographer of The Wiz on Broadway), Ellen Graff (Martha Graham Company), Audrey Madison (Charles Moore Dance Theatre), Myna Majors (The WNBA N.Y. Liberty Timeless Torches), Sandra Rivera (founding member of Ballet Hispanico) and Marnie Thomas Wood (Martha Graham Company) along with artistic director of DVP Naomi Goldberg Haas and the multi-generational DVP dance company. REVIVAL 5: Hybrid! will also feature 50 seniors from DVP's free MOVEMENT SPEAKS® zoom classes and phone conferencing classes which take place at over homes across the city.
