Kent Tritle conducts the 200-voice Oratorio Society of New York chorus, with orchestra and soloists Susanna Phillips and Takaoki Onishi, in the U.S. premiere of the New Critical Edition of Johannes Brahms' beloved German Requiem.

An international team of scholars restored Brahms' "Ein deutsches Requiem" to his original intentions, letting this work shine with new light.

Since its founding in 1873, the Oratorio Society of New York has continued to be an essential part of NYC's cultural fabric and is one of the city's longest-standing cultural organizations. The Society presented its first concert on December 3, 1873. A year later, on Christmas night, the Society began what has become an unbroken tradition of annual performances of Handel's Messiah at its musical home, Carnegie Hall, since its opening in 1891. The Society has always viewed bringing new music to New York audiences as part of its mission. The Society is proud of its history and heritage, and obligated to singers and audiences of the future, that they too are permitted to enjoy this extraordinary experience.

Kent Tritle, one of the leading choral conductors in the United States, is now in his 15th season as music director of OSNY. During his tenure, he has led the Society in highlights of the classical repertoire, rarely performed works, and numerous first performances at home and abroad. Under his direction, the Society has toured Europe, Latin and South America, and Asia, and has appeared with the New York Philharmonic and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Mr. Tritle is also the organist and director of Cathedral music at St. John the Divine.

In a world of digitization and streaming, the Oratorio Society of New York champions the tradition of the performance of grand choral works so that singers and audiences now, and in generations to come, can experience classic and contemporary masterpieces the way their composers intended they be heard - in person, and at the highest artistic standards.
