In honor of Robert Burns whose work was read by Abraham Lincoln, quoted by Sam Houston, and revered for giving the common man a voice, The Robert Burns Society of West Texas sponsors an annual Robert Burns birthday celebration at the Texas Tech University International Cultural Center in Lubbock, Texas. On January 25, 2020 at 6:00 pm, the Burns Supper celebration will offer a prime rib dinner alongside traditional Scottish haggis, neeps (mashed turnips), and tatties (mashed potatoes). A Scotch whisky tasting is included, featuring varieties from all over Scotland. After the traditional Toast to the Lassies, the Lassies' Reply, and a memorial address, the evening concludes with a Scottish song and music concert featuring Texas' own resident Scottish folklorist Ed Miller accompanied by Jil Chambless and Scooter Muse. Don your kilt and your boots and celebrate with us the life and works of Robert Burns. This event is only for adults, age 21 and over. Tickets are available from selectaseatlubbock.com
