A night of forward thinking Jazz comes to Grow!

Think Drum and Bass meets Eastern Euro Folk music, with a touch of John Zorn. The music is inspired by Zhenya and Jamie's musical journeys and studies, and these ideas are combined to create an organic and very original frenetic highly danceable sound. Some people hear Indian influences, some Charlie Parker, some Chris Dave or Michael Brecker.

Zhenya Strigalev (saxophones, electronics) is originally from St Petersburg and has worked with some of today's most respected musicians (including Eric Harland, Ambrose Akinmusire, Tim Lefebvre and Joseph "Foley" McCreary from Miles Davis fame).

Jamie Murray (drums) A forward thinking and conceptual player, with a solid groove style yet an open minded approach to free experimentation! He has played and recorded with jazz giants including the Sun Ra Arkestra Members Knoel Scott and Cecil Brooks as well as many other musicians in today's Jazz scene.

£7 After 8pm - Tickets available in the link

"Strigalev has long had a knack for conjuring big, frisky statements out of tight starting blocks... Inventive, fluent and thrilling... Serious fun." Evening Standard

"A drummer to watch out for" Rhythm Drummer

"...fascinatingly intense, winding and staccato performance - a real orchestrated duo..." - London Jazz News

"always it's a surreal, impressive brew" - Jazzwise

"A typical Strigalev collision of hip jazz virtuosity and surrealism... Strigalev's alto displays bebop agility, shivery lyricism, or sometimes a bluesy Ornetteish swerves." The Guardian

"Phenomenal drummer Jamie Murray" - Jazzwise

Having just successfully played the Love Supreme festival, the famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in August, Berlin and Vienna as well as at London Jazz Festival and Porto Jazz festival in Portugal. This is a fresh exhilarating partnership not to be missed!
