Join us for an opening reception in celebration of a new exhibition, "without a word", a remarkable boutique collection of portraits taken without formal permission by 33 artists.
"without a word" speaks to a widely shared experience of havÑng one's picture taken without formal permission, and to the evocative power of stolen encounters that might reveal more about identity than might ever be found in a formally posed portrait. This remarkable, yet unknown, collection of portrait photographs comes from the private collection of Bill Wu, representing many acclaimed twentieth-century artists including Berenice Abbott, Robert Doisneau, Walker Evans, Graciela Iturbide, Mary Ellen Mark, and more.
