Can life adapt: How will climate change affect biodiversity in BC and beyond?

We are facing an uncertain future as human-caused climate change impacts the Earth's ecosystems. The planet will be altered, but will current biodiversity persist and will ecosystems continue to provide the services essential for humans and other organisms? Using evidence from the past and current research on the natural environment, Tom Flower explores how Earth's ecosystems are changing and, in particular, whether organisms can adapt to climate change.

Tom Flower, PhD is a biology instructor at Capilano University and research associate at both the Centre for Wildlife Ecology (SFU) and the FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology (University of Cape Town). His research has explored diverse questions in animal behaviour, ecology and conservation, but invariably involves field work on animals in the wild including 
meerkats, various African birds and B.C.'s own Steller's jays. Currently, Tom is investigating how desert birds in South Africa are adapting their behaviour to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
