Marine biologist Sheila Byers of the Marine Life Sanctuaries Society will present on The Unique and Ancient Glass Sponge Reefs of Howe Sound. British Columbia’s glass sponge reefs have been called one of the great wonders of the world’s ocean, yet few people have heard of them. The rare reefs are composed of living sponges and their fragile skeletons, made of nearly pure glass (silica).

Sheila Byers, a Registered Professional Biologist and marine biologist, is a past president of the Marine Life Sanctuaries Society. She works as a Museum Interpreter at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, UBC.
