ABOUT THE GUEST ARTISTS
David Andrews began painting to express more than what photography allowed. "Painting lets me build textured surfaces and experiment with color and form. The process of applying paint to canvas is also deeply satisfying." David likes to explore various styles and techniques, modernism, impressionism and realism among them. He is especially interested in abstract expressionism as it allows him to adopt hidden symbolism into complex imagery and to incorporate geometric elements such as cubes, angles and curved lines.

Wendy Sullivan's artwork utilizes found vintage pieces highlighted with real butterflies and beetles. Using rusty, careworn and other discarded bits, Wendy creates a new narrative for these well-loved parts, combining them with beautiful preserved butterflies and colorful beetles, giving new life to things whose "life" appeared to be at an end.

Tina Henle has always held a deep admiration for the work of her late sister Marie Henle and chose to honor her mastery of the etching process and her advocacy for nature by featuring her work in this year's Invitational.
Marie Henle was both a painter and a printmaker. She was known for her layered multiple imagery trademark style, giving added intricacy and depth to her subject matter. Etching is a laborious process of working with solvents, acids and inks on zinc plates to produce these complex pieces, often taking a month of consistent work to complete.

Kirsten Miller grew up in Chicago in a family with professional artists on both sides. Art was simply everywhere. Over time she is developing her personal expression through mixed media work that is exciting, energetic and unique. She describes her work as lyrical abstractions and biomorphic at times. "My art process is pretty much a meditative state. I put in my earbuds and let it flow. I love to experiment and definitely think of art as therapy for my soul."

The pieces Crystal Floyd make are a by-product of her lifestyle, utilizing objects found during exploration of natural environments and ecosystems. As a visual artist and aspiring naturalist native to Northeast Florida, she explores themes of nature, storytelling, and adaptive reuse, transforming collected ephemera and manipulated materials into naturalistic vignettes. Drawing inspiration from the environment and science, Crystal weaves preserved insects, plants, taxonomic items, natural artifacts, miniatures and found objects to activate magical narratives.

Growing up with parents who were avid gardeners, Koo Hon is especially drawn to fruits and flowers as her still life subject matter. Her paintings capture the grandness and serenity of flowers among the charm of ordinary and antique porcelain objects, rich with old whimsy and provocative romanticism. Koo's signature works are lush, colorful, and happy. She likes to keep her painting style loose yet accurate. She says "capturing the light, edges, values, colors and the emotions is what I enjoy the most about still life and also direct painting."

A trained graphic designer, Liz Canali  began exploring traditional felting techniques. It is a natural material that combines aesthetics and comfort, plus is a sustainable, renewable and biodegradable textile. It has intrinsic properties which help to maintain a healthy interior that is pleasant to live in. Her latest wall pieces are made with the Florida climate in mind.

Anna Miller has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. Beginning as an academically trained artist abstract painting now dominates her focus. Anna's paintings expresses the refractions of light. Refractions comes from the observation and perception of color and light patterns found in nature.
