Tandav - India’s first Inclusive dance festival - December 11, Bangalore

Smileys India is an NGO working towards bridging the gap in our society in terms of Art, Culture, Technology, Sports and Education. We bring persons with disabilities to the front row of society through Inclusive Volunteering. We believe in encouraging the diverse population in our country to participate in the civic activities to develop our nation. Our aim is to bring together people, increase awareness about social issues, take action and do our bit to spread smiles in our society. We conduct many activities all year round like 'Paint for a Cause' and "Dream Catcher'. Tandav is the biggest activity conducted by this organization.

 

Tandav is India’s first Inclusive dance festival where people from diverse backgrounds, like persons with various disabilities and children from difficult backgrounds, come together, get exposed and learn various dance forms and celebrate the human spirit. Children learn dance, volunteers learn to spread smiles and everyone present takes a step towards becoming more inclusive. Street Tandav was introduced as a new concept. A super hero, who is inspired by the world of dance and inspires others challenged children at Ananda Tandav (2015) and this year Rudra Tandav Street will see a dance off. At Ananda Tandav, Attam! The inclusive dance troupe was launched. This group comprises of persons with disability with a flair for dancing and it truly captures the spirit of inclusiveness that dance has.

 

Tandav , the dance day, will set the stage for kids from various children’s home. The daylong Carnival has been sketched out in a manner where it will provide an opportunity to learn, relearn and unlearn the concepts and myths about dancing. Tandav will accommodate 600+ kids from various children’s homes across Bangalore. We have organized a team of expert dancers and choreographers, who will impart the knowledge of dances to kids via workshops. Coming out of the workshop, kids will also be given chance to step up with their facilitators.

 

Tandav is organized by the local volunteering community of Bangalore along with the regular volunteers of Smileys. It is mainly a volunteer driven event conducted once a year in the month of December. This year Tandav will take place on 11th December 2016.
