Summer Evening Strolls: Deerfield During the American Revolution

What was life like in a small town during the American Revolution, far from the drama in the Continental Congress and the battlefields? Come to Historic Deerfield on July 4th and 18th and explore the drama and turmoil of revolutionary times. Incorporating music and stories from the period, this special tour looks at the experience of Revolution in lives of ordinary people, both Patriot and Loyalist. It highlights the experience of women, enslaved people, and others often left out of the story of the Revolution. As one Deerfielder lamented, “all nature seems to be in confusion; every person in fear of what his neighbor will do to him. Such times were never seen in New England.”  Join us to see what life was like in a town divided by the birth of America.

Enjoy a special guided evening walking tour along Old Main Street, followed by a discount on dinner and history trivia at Champney’s Restaurant and Tavern at the Deerfield Inn. Each tour incorporates extra artistic entertainment, such as music or poetry readings. Use your new knowledge to win the tour-based trivia quiz at the Inn for a $20 gift card! Guided walking tours begin at 4 p.m. departing every 15 minutes from Historic Deerfield’s Visitor Center at Hall Tavern, and end across the street at the Deerfield Inn. Timed tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours on their own are $10 per person. Dinner from the full summer dinner menu; 20% discount on entrees with purchase of the Sunday Summer Stroll ticket. Dinner is not required for participating in the tour.
