Stories of Song (Conway Hall, 18 October)

What does it mean to sing? Song is our thoughts, emotions and identity made real through our breath. Song could be our most immediate art and is interwoven into our lives from places of worship to campfires to football stadiums to the workplace to... everywhere.

As part of the Bloomsbury Festival, we have brought together two exceptional singers for a conversation about their own songs, their influences, their passions and their lives as singers. Join the conversation in the Q and A.

Miki Berenyi is a singer, songwriter and guitarist best known as a member of the alternative rock band Lush and currently a member of Piroshka. Her autobiography Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me from Success is an uncompromising document of Lush's thrilling rise, dispiriting fall and subsequent bounce back. The heart of the book is Miki's own battles, rivalries, problematic managers and the trials of being a woman in an infuriatingly male world.

David McAlmont was born in Croydon to a Guyanese mother and Nigerian father. He signed a publishing contract with Chrysalis Music in 1992, followed by a record deal with Virgin's Hut Records two years later. He opened for Morrissey in his early solo career before he was approached by ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler which produced The Sound of McAlmont and Butler, an album including 'Yes', which reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart. He recently recorded Bunker to Bunker with Hifi Sean.
