_A night of speech music at The Muse Gallery, featuring Zara Joan Miller + Ute Kanngiesser, and Caius Williams + Theodora Laird. Their sets will be followed by an open mic, so please feel free to bring words or an instrument if you'd like to get involved. Hosted by Ethan Cohen._

*Zara Joan Miller* is a British/Iranian artist and author of poetry collection BLUE MONDAY (JOAN Publishing, 2022). She works across film, performance and print - often playing with movement and sound as a way of reimagining a body's rhythm. Her work has recently been presented at the Barbican Centre, Horse Hospital, No.9 Cork St., Ann Arbor Film Festival, Lausanne Underground Film Festival and has appeared in Fieldnotes journal, Hotel, MAP, Another Gaze and Worms Magazine. Zara has a record with Ute Kanngießer forthcoming on Reading Group.

*Ute Kanngiesser* is a London based cellist and composer from Germany. Over the years, she has carefully deconstructed her classical roots and almost exclusively performs unscripted, improvised music. Much of her work has evolved in relationship with other art forms such as film, poetry, dance, and site specific performance.
Cafe Oto has been her musical home since its beginnings and where she has collaborated with a wide spectrum of local and visiting artists. She has also performed at Whitstable Biennale, The Serpentine Gallery, Tate Modern, the V AND A and international festivals.

*Caius Williams* is an improviser, bassist, and composer from London with a varied practice including improvised music, electronic music, and projects exploring experimental approaches to composition.

Alongside his involvement in various groups and partnerships in and around London, Caius works frequently as a bandleader, and has recently completed and recorded his first large-ensemble project ('Thread'), and a solo project for double bass, to be released via Cafe Oto's OTOROKU label.

Some current collaborative/supportive roles include a duo project with guitarist Tara Cunningham, playing for songwriter and producer 'feeo', and recently working in 'Lifetones': a project led by Charles Bullen of 'This Heat', alongside working with many of London's notable improvisers.

He has been running and curating the 'Grain' residency at Avalon Cafe in Bermondsey for the last year, and is in collaboration with saxophonist Tom Challenger on releasing a series of recordings of improvisations and new works, recorded as part of the residency.

*Theodora Laird*

feeo is the moniker of the producer and multidisciplinary artist Theodora Laird. Channelling a unique combination of styles and influences, feeo's practice revolves around a principle of immersive storytelling, and a focus on the tension between micro and macro narratives. feeo's practice has evolved in tandem with an interest in situating narrative within freely improvised music, specifically through frequent involvement in the 'grain' residency at Avalon Cafe.

feeo first appeared as a vocalist on Loraine James' Hyperdub release 'For You And I' in 2019. Following earlier single releases in 2020, feeo's debut EP 'feels like we're getting older doesn't it' was released in 2021. Early in 2023, feeo independently released her second EP, 'Ah, Hunger!', garnering support from Pitchfork, The Fader and Clash, as well as receiving critical acclaim from The New York Times. feeo is currently working towards her third EP, with support from the PRS Foundation's 'Women Make Music' fund.

*Ethan Cohen* is a sound artist based in London. He likes walking, collaging, and mushrooms.
