Hidden in Plain Sight: Combatting Financial Elder Abuse and Helping Vulnerable Seniors Affected by Financial Scams Elder financial abuse and fraud is on the rise and costs older Americans $36.5 billion per year according to the National Council on Aging. This program will spotlight the high-profile legal case from Fort Worth involving William "Doc" Gallagher who created a Ponzi scheme that scammed $32 million from unsuspecting seniors, ages 62 to 91. This local case gained national attention and more vigilance in catching these financial predators who are often hidden in plain sight. This program will recount details from this recent case and efforts being taken by government and nonprofit organizations in North Texas to prevent financial edler abuse from happening.
