In celebration of a quarter century of community engagement in the performing arts, San Francisco Recovery Theatre presents Night at The Black Hawk: Keep Dreams Alive. Admission is free with reservations as a salute and homage to the audiences who have supported San Francisco Recovery Theatre over the years and are available at https://www.sfrecoverytheatre.org .

The performance will feature award winning jazz vocalist Paula West and composer/guitarist A. Spencer Barefield with a cavalcade of local and national jazz theatre artists. San Francisco Recovery Theatre Executive/Artistic Director, Geoffrey Grier, will host and MC the evening with his inimitable style with social commentary and humor.

Night At The Black Hawk is a tribute to the legendary San Francisco Black Hawk nightclub that was a historical epicenter of African American arts in the 1960s. Starting with Miles Davis’ launching album recorded live, Friday and Saturday Night at the Black Hawk, many important African American artists launched their careers at the Black Hawk. They include Thelonious Monk, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Mathis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Johnny Mathis, Art Tatum, Billie Holiday, Lester Young and Charlie Parker. San Francisco Recovery Theatre has been single-handedly keeping this heritage alive through its “Black Hawk" series. The January 14 evening will provide a broad presentation of jazz and theatrical works preserving this rich heritage of African American culture, indigenous and indicative of the San Francisco Tenderloin District.
