Roughcut Diamonds BC Tour
Press Release-July 4/23 Vancouver

What is a Roughcut Diamond? it is a loose, hard, unpolished, uncut jewel in its natural state. What is the Roughcut Diamonds Tour, it is a loose collection of players hardened by a lifetime of playing out their musical passion away from the polish of commerciality, true to themselves while mining their earthy art.

With the legends starting to leave middle earth, these talented journeymen are now coming into their full light as the true torchbearers of the cultural jewel that is live rock and roll.

Willie Nile is a legend in NYC with superstar fans who are creating a documentary to sing the praises of this 75 going-on 54, post-punk troubadour and his killer band of elite CBGB-style touring all-stars. Singing Willie's documentary praises are Bono, Springsteen, Pete Townshend and Lucinda Williams. Nile has released a dozen albums this century that have garnered critical raves while developing a killer live show of real-deal rock in a world where that intensity is receding.

David Gogo was once the next big thing on the blues scene, blessed by Stevie Ray Vaughan and encouraged to dedicate his life to the rockin' blues. Gogo became a significant player on the live scene from his island base of Nanaimo. 30 years later after 6 Juno nominations, multiple Maple Leaf Blues awards and opening slots with the biggest names in rock and blues, from the Hip and ZZ Top to Buddy Guy and Albert Collins.

Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Stephen Stanley is best known as lead guitarist and vocalist with the Lowest of the Low. After years of touring with the likes of Billy Bragg, The Violent Femmes, and Lloyd Cole plus a gold record for their "genuinely timeless album" Shakespeare My Butt, Stanley now leads his own band, the Stephen Stanley Band and has logged other monumental shows with 54•40, Bob Mould, Cracker, and Jake Clemons.

These are the Roughcut Diamonds, musical survivors who kept the faith through the vagaries of an industry decimated by technological change that stripped away recording revenue. But they kept rocking, from major label to indie DIY from stadium to the clubs. This August these Roughcut Diamonds are ready to let their light shine on BC's brightest stages. These three bring the true fire of over a combined century of playing; starting as young guns in the classic rock era to now being grizzled survivors in the post-modern, rock is dead, R and B/cow-hop Spotify era.

Roughcut Diamonds features some of the best musical talent left unearthed by the commercial masses; coming together to cut through the dirt and shine their eternal lights into BC's best rock clubs, pushing the pendulum of pop culture with their hard-fire to swing back towards passion over production.

Stephen Stanley will open all shows with partner Chris Bennett. At the Rickshaw, the David Gogo Band will play a full concert set before Willie Nile burns it all down. At the new Squamish venue 1 and ½ Ave, David Gogo will headline the show with Willie and Stephen opening. At the Blue Frog in White Rock, The Queens in Nanaimo and the new Wicket Hall in the Strathcona Hotel in Victoria; Stephen Stanley will open for Willie Nile.

Tickets are priced accordingly and are on sale now digitally at the various venues. You can also find links to the venue's digital ticket sites at https://www.willienile.com.
