THE ROMANTIC PIANO: Pre-Valentine's Day Concert and Reception

Join us for the inaugural concert on St. Paul's newly acquired 6-foot, 11-inch Steinway Model B concert grand, which will make it a leading concert venue in the region. Lithuanian pianist Paulius Pancekauskas performs a varied program to showcase the instrument's range, from Romantic composers Chopin and Schumann and the late-Romantic Rachmaninov to contemporary French composer Jean-Pierre Armanet. Followed by a wine reception with the pianist and composer.

The program opens with an all-Romantic first half, featuring three pieces by Polish composer Frederic Chopin, written during the years he lived in Paris, as well as music by the German Robert Schumann and the last Romantic composer, the Russian Sergey Rachmaninov. The second half moves into the 20th and 21st centuries, featuring the Russian Symbolist composer Alexander Scriabin and contemporary French composer Jean-Pierre Armanet. Armanet's composition is dedicated to and inspired by Boston's historic subway, the oldest in North America, and will have its US premiere two days earlier at the French Cultural Center in Boston.

Artists: Paulius Pancekauskas is a pianist from Lithuania who earned his Masters of Music from Longy School of Music of Bard College, where he is now pursuing an Artist Diploma. He made his debut with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra in 2009, and has won or placed in more than ten international competitions in Europe and the US. After moving to the US in 2016, Paulius was granted the Presidential Scholarship and Neil and Jane Pappalardo Scholarship at Longy. Currently, Paulius is an active performer in Massachusetts pursuing his solo performance and teaching career.
