The chuff of the pistons, the blast of the whistle, the scent of coal smoke in the air and the fabulous scenery of the South Tyne Valley, make for a great day out for families and enthusiasts alike at our steam gala weekend.
Visiting locomotive 1215, a rare and historic loco which first saw service in the first world war, will be visiting from its home at Apedale Light Railway in Staffordshire and will be taking passengers up the line to Slaggyford and back accompanied by one of the steam locos from South Tynedale Railway's own fleet.
Lots of other historic locos will be on show at this nostalgic Railway 200 event, which commemorates the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in September 1825. Our volunteers will be on hand to tell you all about the locos interesting histories and there will be lots of photo opportunities too.
