Race For Rare Kids on Lake Michigan 5k + 1k Kids Dash

Race For Rare Kids (RFRK) is dedicated to the education, advocacy, and support of families proud to call someone they love “rare”. Our event hopes to raise awareness for any child (or adult) taking on a unique journey with a different ability, disability, or developmental difference and to raise funding for the non-profit rare disease foundation The TBCK Foundation, which benefits children born with the neuro-genetic disease TBCK Syndrome.

Race For Rare Kids is hosted by a rare disease foundation, but our event's reach is one that is much larger. Disabilities are oftentimes misunderstood and there are very limited events that consider the experience of a person with disabilities, mobility, or sensory needs that differ from the mainstream. Our hope is that this event can be a time where people with disabilities and non-disabled people can come together as advocates and champions of neurodiversity! Accessible and inclusive events and spaces are not the norm, but we hope that one day our advocacy can be part of the work that creates a space for everyone, regardless of ability.
