Tashnuva is a Bangladeshi transgender rights activist and performer who has been involved in Bangladeshi theatre productions since 2007. She was the first openly transgender news anchor in Bangladesh. Most recently she performed in the award-winning play Public Obscenities, written and directed by Shayok Misha Chowdhury, which premiered at NYC's Soho Rep. in 2023.
The performance she will present at Williams College, titled Parikh [Lover], is based on her book of poetry of the same name, which was published in February 2024. In the performance Tashnuva explores themes of queer love, desire, and loss, and the ways these experiences find expression in and beyond language. Parikh is performed in Bengali with English translations.
