A hilltop neighborhood built as a green retreat from industrial life will share its horticultural secrets on Saturday, May 15, when the Park Hill Residents’ Association hosts a Secret Garden and Walking Tour from 11 AM to 4:30 PM. The self-guided tour will begin at the Park Hill Racquet Club at 2 Glenbrook Avenue in Yonkers. Attendees will receive a map that directs them from garden to garden and a program with details on each stop. Full safety measures will be in place: entries will be staggered and monitored, and masks will be required.
Set amid stunning late 19th and early 20th-century homes on winding, leafy streets, Park Hill’s gardens are tucked artfully into the area’s hills and outcrops. The hill crests at over 250 feet, with views over the Hudson and the Palisades from its western slopes. Developed mainly between 1890 and 1930, the neighborhood features varied architectural styles, including Victorian, Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, Mediterranean, Colonial Revival, and Shingle-style. At the end of the event, food trucks will be arriving at the Racquet Club, and the bar will open in the afternoon.
Advance tickets are available for $20 at www.parkhillyonkers.org. Tickets will also be available for $25 at the Racquet Club on the day of the event (cash or check only). Heavy rain will postpone the event to Sunday, May 16. For more information, please email [email protected].
