Join us for this intimate event with the photographer Alastair Philip Wiper, to take a closer look at the subject and context of his large-scale works which highlight the complexity of mass production and consumerism and its intricate relationship with the environment.
"...looking around me and thinking about where all the products around me come from... like picking up a pen or a glass or a spoon... and thinking what factory was this built in..."
Alastair Philip Wiper captures the superhuman scale and eccentric nature of the processes, machinery, and buildings involved in contemporary industrial production and scientific research. Shot around and inside global operational factories and labs, his immaculately composed photographs present a rigorous analysis of industrial forms and processes. Wiper has been commissioned by architectural and design magazines such as Blueprint, Wallpaper, Icon, Vice, Domus, Wired, the Telegraph, and the Guardian.
This event is created in connection with the photography workshop Forms of Industry: Online architectural photoday, taking place on Sunday 13 June 2021.
This talk is part of the accompanying programme for RIBA’s exhibition Forms of Industry, a display of contemporary photographs by Alastair Philip Wiper (b.1980) and archival images by Eric de Mare (1910-2002) from the RIBA Collections.
