As the Nordics continue to push technological developments and innovations internationally, their ability to leverage and monopolise IP portfolios is central to ensuring continued success. This is especially so, as the Nordics are global leaders in tech start ups and innovations.
A huge shift in innovation is the collaborative nature that many industries are having to take with new developments in IoT (Internet of Things) and connectivity. For example, the automotive industry – which is arguably where the biggest innovations are being developed and implement - is having to work more closely with telecommunications and tech companies like Nokia and Ericsson, who own the IP to many of the key, standardised technologies that enable connectivity to happen.
As such, it is now more vital than ever for different industries to collaborate with each other, when it comes to Open Innovation and Patent Licensing, and cooperate with the principles of FRAND, to ensure IoT innovation
