New Year Eve Town Social- The Deadlocks w/Duane Betts and Cody Dickinson @ The Virginian

Highland Music presents The New Years Eve Town Social at the Virginian- a two-night concert event hosted by Jackson’s own The Deadlocks, a Grateful Dead tribute band. New Years’ Eve will feature Duane Betts (Duane Betts and Friends, Allman Family Revival) and Grammy nominated percussionist Cody Dickenson (North Mississippi Allstars, Phil and Friends) as very special guests onstage with The Deadlocks. Music will occur in the Virginian Ballroom, with cocktail service and DJ entertainment in the Saloon. Master of Ceremonies, The Reverend Rusty Reams (Great Bingo Revival) shall ring in the New Year, and curate a live Bingo game with great prizes based on the Evening’s setlist. On Friday December 30th the Deadlocks shall present an authentic Grateful Dead Experience with two full sets of music.

The Musicians
Duane Betts
Duane Betts is an American guitarist and singer-songwriter. The Sarasota, Florida native cut his teeth as a teen sitting-in regularly with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Allman Brothers Band, before relocating to Southern California and leading rock outfits Backbone69 and Whitestarr. Betts next spent nearly a decade playing guitar alongside his father, Dickey Betts, in his group, Great Southern. As well, he was a touring guitarist for folk-rockers Dawes, and a member of the brief supergroup, Jamtown, featuring G. Love, Donovan Frankenreiter, and Cisco Adler.  
 
In 2018, Betts released his debut, Sketches of American Music, and toured as a guest of the Devon Allman Project. At year’s end Betts announced the formation of The Allman Betts Band, officially uniting with Allman, and with Berry D. Oakley, son of the late Allman Brothers Band founding bassist Berry Oakley. The group issued two albums- 2019’s Down to the River and 2020’s Bless Your Heart- before announcing its hiatus in 2022. Currently Betts is prepping a second solo album, furthering his impassioned six-string stories reflecting a life and a history steeped in blues, rock, and country music tradition.
 
Cody Dickinson 

(Producer/Original Score/Performer) is an Award winning Musician and Film Producer. Cody has earned four Grammy nominations as a founding member of the North Mississippi Allstars. He has also won multiple awards as co creator and producer of the Take Me To The River film series.

As a drummer, Cody has shared the stage with artists ranging from R.L. Burnside to Phil Lesh. Touring with North MS Allstars, opening for Robert Plant and the Allman Brothers. As a producer, Cody has worked with a wide range of musicians including Lucero, Cisco Adler, and Les Claypool. He also produced British blues guitarist Ian Siegal’s “The Skinny” (2011) and “Candy Store Kid” (2012), both of which were nominated for “Best Contemporary Blues Album” at the annual Blues Music Awards. Cody continues to be one of the industry’s premier drummers, demonstrated by his 2013 Blues Music Awards nomination in the “Best Instrumentalist/Drums” category.

The Deadlocks
Based in Jackson Hole, The Deadlocks bring an authentic Grateful Dead experience to the Intermountain West. Following in the tradition set forth by the Dead in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond, the band levies harmonic guitars, defined musical composition, a double drumset, and a vibrant mix of song performance and psychedelic improvisation. Each Deadlocks show is a unique experience; pulling from a repertoire of nearly 100 songs and growing, a Deadlocks production is exciting, immersing, unpredictable, and dynamic. All aspects of the performance- from the instrumentation to the stage layout- are carefully produced to ensure an authentic representation. Accurately depicting the music and sound of the original band, the Deadlocks have built a strong regional following while bringing together Deadheads and music aficionados together through engaging and intricate music.

 
The Grateful Dead’s song list represents a cross-section of pure American Rock-n-Roll; the songs derive from the blues, country, funk, bluegrass, ballads, and jazz influences. As musicians, the group focused on a balanced sound that allowed for songs that were approachable to the casual listener, while complex and dynamic enough to continually engage their devoted fans. As a touring act, the Grateful Dead consistently championed top attendance records internationally. Their sound is recognized and emulated by innumerable modern rock and country-western acts, and resonates strongly throughout the West.
