Born and raised in Beverly Hills, California, Daniel Maltzman has always been interested in pop culture and advertisement. His early career consisted of promoting the hottest clubs in Hollywood and running a successful business in the fashion industry. A switch to the art world was natural for Maltzman as his obsession with creativity and expression only grew with his exposure to the art scene that so profoundly impacted Los Angeles nightlife.

Daniel Maltzman is an American artist known for his Pop-Surrealist paintings. His work is contemporary and inspired by great artists in history including Richter and Warhol. Maltzman focuses on drippy, layered abstracts, strong female forms, and a series of shadow figures and is now releasing his "Catching the Butterfly" series.

Daniel Maltzman's "Catching The Butterfly" series is an ongoing project where he revives paintings into new works, suggesting the ephemerality of time and the importance of change.

Butterflies are transformative and free from former identities. Maltzman utilizes this symbol within the depiction of iconic figures as he paints their image frozen in time; preserving their identities. The network of butterflies energize the image while creating a barrier between the viewer and the figure.
Growing up in the heart of Los Angeles, Maltzman has always been interested in the relationships between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement. Working with layers of paint and imagery that exude energy and life, Maltzman draws the viewer into a world full of movement. This signature style illustrates Maltzman’s ability to juxtapose abstract mixed media with a vivid figure.
