Global energy infrastructure, which heavily depends on fossil fuel now, strongly supports the development of global economy and human society, but the greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions from its operation lead to climate change and other environmental problems. The rapid expansion of energy infrastructure in recent years has further intensified global carbon emissions and carbon commitment, seriously threatening the climate goals under the Paris Agreement framework.
In order to explore feasible low-carbon transition pathway and promote the emission mitigation of energy infrastructure, Tsinghua University, along with Energy Foundation China will hold an international symposium called “Low-carbon Transition Pathway for Global Energy Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities” on the evening (20:30-22:30) of August 25, 2021 (Beijing time). Well-known experts and scholars in the related fields will be invited to have in-depth discussions on the low-carbon transition pathway of global energy infrastructure and other related topics.
The main topics include Science to help inform the transition to a zero carbon society, Net-zero CO2 emissions energy systems in scenarios, Low carbon scenarios and air quality benefits and challenges, Global Carbon Commitment Perspective 2021.
