Jazz And BBQ

This highly anticipated event is typically sold-out each year and is a major showcase for one of the nation's premiere Vocal Jazz Programs which include the ensembles "Badinage" and Sonance.

To reserve tickets, call Susan at the Fine Arts Office – 665-3503. Tickets are $15, which includes the Roy's BBQ dinner.  Tickets are also available at the door, but we would suggest that you call and make a reservation.  

The Vocal Jazz Program has won multiple DownBeat Awards as well as 7 performances at Carnegie Hall for the Carnegie Hall Vocal Jazz Festival. In addition, Badinage has been invited to perform on several Jazz Education Network's National Conventions, is a former winner of the North Texas Jazz Festival, and is a leader in commissioning new charts for the repertoire of vocal jazz ensembles.

This year's "Jazz and BBQ" event will include works by Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Elton John, Duke Person, and Stevie Wonder, as well as charts by the New York Voices and arrangers Paris Rutherford, Steve Zegree, Kerry Marsh, and Phil Mattson.  The literature will include a wide range of songs ranging from a stunning vocal jazz arrangement of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", to Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", and Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour" to year's commission of the tune "You Are My Sunshine".
