"Jana Nicole digs beneath our feet and brings unusual perspectives to the surface, highlighting our connections to the living soil. Her artwork evolves around the transformation of paper, branches, moss, roots. She plays with living materials and cut paper to create imaginative landscapes, yet real."
Michel King, President of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts
Jana Nicole’s monumental (3m x 2m) hand-cut mixed media botanical installation, The Glade, won her the prestigious Puvis de Chavannes Prize by France’s Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts this year. It is displayed as part of a solo exhibition of botanical works in the coach house at one of Sussex’s grandest manor houses, Glynde Place.
The artist has re-imagined the Paris work in response to her home county by incorporating local flora into the highly detailed and complex collage. The large-scale piece is exhibited with other smaller works in the Botanical Troupe series, all specially printed onto Perspex.
The exhibition, which is free to attend, is open daily 11am-6pm No booking is required. In addition, there are two ticketed (but free) evening events with music, food, fire, and a bar. Vernissage on 2 December and Finissage on 9 December.
