The acclaimed pianist Jack Gibbons makes a rare Christmas visit to Oxford from the United States, to give a special concert in celebration of Christmas and the winter solstice. The programme includes the UK premieres of Gibbons' virtuoso piano arrangements of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the Pastorale from Corelli's Christmas Concerto, plus winter-themed works by Chopin, Schumann, Liszt and Debussy, Gibbons' own variations on Silent Night and In Dulci Jubilo, a music box arrangement of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, plus two of Gibbons' own Helvetia carols, and another chance to hear his Fantaisie Op.116.
"Jack Gibbons is a unique phenomenon in the musical world of today. Thanks to his virtuosic skills Gibbons can hold an audience in thrall. His concert-giving style is equally attractive: before his performances he talks unassumingly but with great authority from the platform, drawing the listeners into a special relationship." Humphrey Burton CBE
