IOAD Middle TN 2023: Reflections of Hope and Healing

On August 31st, East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is hosting an International Overdose Awareness Day event on their campus at 9000 Concord Road (corner of Concord Road and Wilson Pike) from 4:30-8:30 PM. IOAD Middle TN 2023: Reflections of Hope and Healing promises to be a powerful afternoon/evening dedicated to educating, enlightening, and empowering the community around the issues of substance misuse disorder and mental health challenges facing so many individuals and families. Additionally, they will honor those lost to overdoses, as well as ones still impacted by these issues.
Highlights include:
• Dozens of community organizations with representatives and materials available to share the many resources available to those who are struggling
• A Naloxone Training Workshop (5:15-6:00 PM)
• A Reflections Gallery created by local young artists and inspired by the theme
• A Staged Program with powerful speakers and inspirational music, including a community choir
• A Candlelight Tribute
• Food Truck and Bake Sale Desserts
"EBPC is honored to join this global effort to reduce the stigma of addiction, to recognize the impact of overdoses across all demographic and geographic sectors, and to inspire action in the coming 365 days through education and awareness," stated Liz Beatty, IOAD Middle TN 2023 coordinator. Liz and her husband Yarnell lost their own 24-year-old son Alex in 2016 to an accidental overdose after nearly a decade of struggling with addiction and anxiety issues.
