The Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum is hosting a virtual symposium, "Honoring Cultural Traditions in Fiber Arts," October 8-10, 2021. This completely online event will present four lectures, each speaker sharing their personal perspectives about the fiber art traditions of their heritage and how it impacts their current artwork. There will also be two workshops offered, one focused on creating a family crest and the other will explore the Japanese sashiko stitching techniques.

Event begins with key note speaker Margaret Roach Wheeler, Chickasaw textile artist/weaver, who has an innate belief in and commitment to the tradition and artwork of her ancestors. Green said that exploring Margaret’s work online stimulated her curiosity about how she has blended traditional design with contemporary fashion.

Also presenting is Latina artist Dolores Mercado, currently the Associate Curator for the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, Miwako Kimura and Noriko Koyama, both highly recognized fiber artists in Japan, and Torreah "Cookie" Washington, a fourth generation needle worker born in Rabat, Morocco.

Ticket price listed is for full weekend package. Additional pricing available on event website.
