An Irish blues singer of real integrity," is how the Sunday Times describes Gráinne Duffy after her remarkable debut album, "Out Of The Dark," which led her to her first performance at the Glastonbury Festival. In recent years, the Irish guitarist, singer, and songwriter has gone far beyond this, exploring the blues and its diverse history more intensely while achieving her Ph.D. doctorate, focusing on early female blues artists. Simultaneously, Duffy released two albums, "Voodoo Blues" and "Dirt Woman Blues." Both albums blend the roots of the blues with a contemporary sound alongside her native Irish phrasing, imbuing Celtic undertones.
Throughout her career, she has opened and shared stages with artists such as Robben Ford, Little Feat, Billy Gibbons, Mavis Staples, Keb' Mo', Marc Ford, and Eric Gales. In 2014 and 2015, Duffy was voted the winner in the Blues Matters Writers Poll in the categories of "Best Vocalist" and "Best Solo Artist."
Her fourth studio album, "Voodoo Blues," released in 2020, led to Duffy becoming the winner of the Independent Blues Awards 2021 in the category of "Best Modern Roots Artist." In August 2021, together with Johnny Logan (Eurovision winner) and accompanied by the RTE Symphony Orchestra, Duffy recorded a unique version of The Beatles' "Hey Jude" for RTE TV.
In May 2023, Duffy released her fifth studio album, "Dirt Woman Blues," produced by renowned Grammy winner Chris Goldsmith (Ben Harper, Blind Boys Of Alabama) and the seminal guitarist Marc Ford (of The Black Crowes). The album reached No. 1 in the USA RMR and remained in the Top 50 for 39 consecutive weeks while achieving No. 2 in Australia's Top 30 Blues Airplay and No. 2 in the UK IBBA Top 40.
In June 2023, Duffy's new album, "Dirt Woman Blues," was also nominated for the annual Blues Blast Music Awards 2023 in the category of "Best Blues Rock Album." She was also nominated as the 5th Best Blues Album for 2023 by Classic Rock Magazine.UK. The renown music outlet from Brazil Manque Rock also includes Duffy's new album in Top 5 blues albums for 2023.
