Milanese nun Chiara Margarita Cozzolani (1602–c. 1677), in “Regna terræ, cantate Deo,” reminds us that women were finding a place in a very limiting society. Hildegard (c. 1098–1179) expresses her unique poetic voice in “Caritas Abundat.” From more current times, Linda Studley and Marie-Claire Saindon join talents in “The Voyage,” the Ensemble’s latest commissioned work; and Abbie Betinis’ “aural origami” in “A Blessing of Cranes” was inspired by the Japanese story from the end of World War II of how paper cranes came to be the worldwide symbol of peace.

“Each musical selection came from a time of hardship and challenge,” explains Dr. Raney. “How can one not be heartened by what has been generated from personal struggles?”

The Ensemble is joined by Dana Winograd, cello; Diana Sharpe, percussion; Dave Anderson, flute; and their own pianist, Bill Epstein. Says Dr. Raney, “The musical styles you will experience range from lush harmonies to rhythmic extravaganzas. Don’t miss this varied collection of pieces perfect for inspiration during this time of ours!”
