Do you like riddles? Gian Carlo Menotti has created one for you!

A young Groom and his Bride, on their honeymoon, find themselves in a mysterious ancient hotel, long past its former glory. They can't find their key, and don't know the room number. Hotel guests, some quite dotty, keep popping up, giving increasingly strange advice and bad directions as the couple turn down one hallway after another in an ever more frantic search.

Originally written in 1963 for NBC TV in 1963, Menotti had in mind the special effects that television technology could use to create a visually and auditorily mesmerizing production. CCE has taken up the challenge of turning this TV work into a live fully staged, costumed, and orchestrated opera! We've got some special effects up our sleeves to guide you through the young couple's ever more frantic search for their room - their destiny - with all the special effects at our disposal in a live theater space!

In seeking their key and hotel room, the ever-more bewildered couple meet a spy, an astronaut, an old man playing chess, a busy executive manager, and finally, the mysterious "clerk" at the front desk.

Menotti's operatic riddle mesmerizes with humor, pathos, panic, glorious singing and captivating music.
