Kasandra Flamenco Ensemble to perform "FLAMENCO AROUND THE MAP - "DE IDA Y VUELTA"!
on Sunday November 27 at the Dance Centre, Faris Family Studio.  There is a 6pm FREE cajon and palmas/music workshop for ticketholders and show starts 7pm.

Kasandra Flamenco is thrilled to present "FLAMENCO AROUND THE MAP – De Ida Y Vuelta!", fiery Flamenco dance with a Latin American twist.  This dance journey chronicles how flamenco music was influenced by Cuba and Argentina, as Vancouver's bailaora Kasandra "La China" dances six flamenco dances including the Guajiras, Colombianas and Rumba from Cuba and also the lesser known Vidalita and Milongas from Argentina.  The music in the show features all original compositions by Josue Tacoronte, award-winning flamenco guitarist-composer from Havana, who stars in the show with Afro-Cuban Flamenco percussionist, Davide Sampaolo.  Father of Vancouver Flamenco, Maestro Oscar Nieto navigates us through the history of music, rhythm and "compas"!  Experience the Kasandra Flamenco Ensemble, a group that has been dubbed "a feast for the eyes and ears with an energy that flows like water and skips like fire".

"De Ida Y Vuelta" literally means "to go and return" like a round-trip plane or train ticket.  We know Flamenco is an art form originating from the south of Spain, however, our journey in "De Ida Y Vuelta" starts with Spanish migration to Latin America and tells the tale of how new song-forms were created as Flamenco was influenced by the culture, poetry and music there.  For instance, Cuba is enormously important to world music, as the Rumba was born from Afro-Cuban tradition.  Many Rumbas exist today, from Rumba Cubana to Rumba Catalan to Rumba Flamenca!  World music fans will enjoy a fresh blend of virtuosic Spanish Flamenco infused with groovy Cuban rhythms and Latin jazz sensibility with magical dance!  With music to rival any jazz festival headliner, Kasandra dances with with the mesmerizing "Manton de Manila" silk shawl, twirling of Spanish fans, bata de cola long train skirt and rapid-fire footwork.  The group transports the audience like magic!

With emotional and musical chemistry, rhythm and soniquete , the Kasandra Flamenco Ensemble ignites the audience to an uproar.  Enjoy spontaneity, passion and emotion as the artists torch the stage!  One Sunday only at the Dance Centre's Family Faris Studio, 7pm for a unique one of a kind experience!
