'Moss doesn't grow on a rolling stone' and in the 30 years since Spike and the Quireboys opened for Jagger/Richards and Co at St James Park never a truer word has been said.

Spike having dealt with his band leaving him has gone from strength to strength. His solo career resurfaced in those dark days of lock-down and social distancing. "We couldn't play as band and venues were forced to have all seated audiences which reduced the capacity and certainly did not suit a band like the Quireboys anyway" says Spike. "I had been working on some songs at home with my acoustic guitar and recorded some classic pop songs for my Ma. She loved them and I continued to record some more. Some friends listened to them and before I knew it the 'Late Night Song Book' album was released. This was to form the basis of my solo shows along with stripped down versions of The Quireboys hits that I wrote with Guy Bailey."

It was to prove a great success and Spike's shows sold out up and down the country. His gigs have become so popular that he is constantly invited back to venues and new doors open every day.

The shows are billed as the Rock and Roll Storyteller and are great examples of artist and audience interaction. Sing Along With Max started something here!

So as a rather wet and muddy festival seasons draws to a close Spike will bring his show back indoors to everyones relief. Forever the showman and usually garnering a host of musical guests to his gigs you never quite know who will grace the stage with him.
